Recently Wang Jun from Baosteel Ltd. was awarded the Second Prize of National Award for Science & Technology Progress for the second time with the project of “R&D and application of Plunger type laminar cooling system for hot-rolled strip”
The laminar cooling uniformity equipment technology of hot rolling is closely correlated with the uniformity of width-wise temperature and strip structure property of hot rolling, which is always the difficulty in the field of laminar cooling for hot rolling in the world. In 2005, Wang Jun took the lead to research and develop the plunger type laminar cooling system for hot-rolled strip, and creatively put forward the idea of installing built-in width-wise shelter control in view of the high temperature and humid environment in hot rolling laminar cooling zone. After 4 generations of technological upgrading R&D, the R&D result is successfully applied om Baosteel Ltd. Hot Rolling 2050 line’s laminar cooling system successfully. The practice proves that this achievement has obvious advantages over the same type of technologies at abroad in terms of the technical indices such as design theory, energy saving and system stability, which has reached the international leading level and filled the domestic blank in the technology of complete set of equipment. The application of this technology can improve the yield of some steel grades by 0.8%, if calculating according to 5 million tons’ annual output of Baosteel Ltd. Hot Rolling 2050 line, the water equivalent to the volume of two West Lakes can be saved, and over 40,000t of premium steel can be produced additionally.
Compared with the project awarded the second prize of National Award for Science & Technology Progress for the first time in 2008, the project with which Wang Jun is awarded the prize this time embodies more the technical capability to system solution, makes breakthrough in theory. The research achievements include a lot of original technological achievements, obtain 28 Chinese patents and 6 PCT international patent authorization successively, 2 software copyrights, and are awarded one second prize of provincial science & technology award, 2 gold prizes of National Invention, and 1 gold prize of International Invention, etc.
